Are you a go getter or a quiet achiever who likes to roll your sleeves up and have a go? Have you got some hidden talents that you are keen to show us? Do you enjoy working in small teams with like minded people and having fun while you do it? Do you enjoy serving your community? Have you been feeling inadequate watching others do the work in your Club for your rider/s? Would you like to help but want to ‘dip your toe in the water first’?

If you are one, some, or all of the above then - Your Club Needs You!

All of the work required to run this Club and serve our members is done by volunteers. The Club has no paid employees. It is self funded and does not rely on Government assistance. Any assistance is appreciated and a bonus.

Everything you see at our complex was built by volunteers during the last 40 years. Everything that we can ‘see’ in our future, will be built by volunteers. Volunteering is not just your duty, it’s fun.

It’s also a generational thing. Every year new people join in and others retire. Every year new things are done, and new things will need to be done. The work never stops. If it does, so will the riding. We need to keep the work going to keep the Club going. We need a Succession Plan, so here it is!

The Club needs new people to work alongside experienced eachers in small teams to train for or assist in the following ‘stuff’:

· Licensed Motorcycling Australia Officials: Stewards, Clerks of the Course, Race Secretary’s, Scrutineers, Marshals

· Administrative Support: Sign On, Lap Scoring, Collating and Maintaining Point scores, photocopying, processing membership applications, Club Secretary, book keeping, minutes secretary’s, filing and record keeping

· Construction, Maintenance & Repairs: Any trades/skills to help us build and maintain the best dirt bike complex in Australia

· Track watering· Leadership, Business Management, Decision taking: MX & DT Sub-Committees, Business Analysis, Modelling and Planning, Policies, Procedures, Risk Management, Emergency Planning, Health, Safety and Environment.

· Marketing: Media liaison, event management, advertising/promotions, press releases, event reports, photography, video production, brochures, winning sponsorships, partnering, website design/maintenance

· Canteens: Gourmet cooks, stock purchasing, sales, cleaning

· Fun-Trophies, Raffles, Parties, Presentation· Not so fun: Cleaning, oilets and rubbish removal

· Rider Training: Coaches and Assistants

· IT & Systems development: Brainy people who build stuff in cyberspace so computers can do the work and we can all have a fat time

Remember this: We can’t spend excuses, only actions, so if you are here, you may as well be doing something useful. It’ll help your kids, and it’ll help everyone else’s.

If one of these jobs sounds like a job for you, then go to Contacts page, pick out someone who does what you want to do, go to hephone, pick it up and call them. Offer to help. They’ll fall over backwards, but when they wake up they’ll appreciate a hand.

Allan McNeice
President (yes, this job is yours if you want it, I want to be one of those 1. Brainy people 2. Having a fat time 3. While you cook and 4. I party). Ph (After Business Hours Only Please)- 0427-033-043.

6 Feb 2008 - The Club’s MX Sub-Committee is pleased to announce that it has accepted Matt Haskin’s proposal to provideprofessional MX and Enduro coaching services to ACT MCC members at the MX track and elsewhere at the ACT MCC Fairbairn Park complex on weekdays and after school.Matt started out at our Club as a junior on a Pee Wee 80, a former ACT MCC Rider of the Year, and is now a professional rider and oach.

Matt and his brother Lach commenced their coaching “apprenticeships” as Lyndon Heffernan’s assistant’s on the Yamaha Academy of Off Road Riding. They have both achieved Motorcycling Australia’s Level 2 Motorcycle Coaching qualifications; the highest inour sport. Until recently Matt was the Academy’s Head Coach forWA and has coached riders all over Australia.

In the early days Matt and Lach both helped run our Kick Start Junior Rider Training program. As far as we know Matt is Australia’s only Level 2 Coach who is also currently a Pro Rider. In November 2007 Matt was one of only 15 riders selected to attend the MA Elite Under 21yrs ‘Riders to America’ MX Camp at the Australian Instituteof Sport, Canberra.

When he returns from the USA in early February 2008 he plans to commence regular coaching for ACT MCC members at Fairbairn Park.He will be our Club’s first “resident” professional coach, and will be assisted by Lach.Matt has established his own Coaching business and intends to oncentrate on coaching local riders within our district.

The Club recognises the value that regular coaching and training has on improving rider’s skills and performance It is keen to support a program that is available to all members on a regular basis at our complex. For these reasons the MX Sub-Committee will subsidise this program by waiving the normal $10 per rider per day track hire fee for the first 12 months.All Coaching will be under an MA Coaching Permit and will also allow the junior riders to accumulate hours towards their compulsory 5 hours coaching per year. Depending on the number of riders who take up this offer, some of our other Club Coach’s and assistants will assist. This will help to keep the group sessions affordable.The tracks will still be available for hire to other Commercial coaches (including Matt and Lach) for weekend and school holiday coaching schools for members and non members at the current commercial rates.

Matt is seeking expressions of interest from riders of all ages whoare interested in being coached individually and as groups on weekdays and after school.You can contact Matt direct on 0422 188569 to make a booking.

The Club’s MX Sub-Committee is calling for expressions of interest for an ACT MCC Junior MX Team to attend the 2008 Australian unior MX Championships in Perth in late September.

Wouldn’t it be great to be part of a team of ACT MCC Juniors, parents and supporters heading to Perth for a week to participate Australian Junior MX Nationals?Some ideas already canvassed are:· manager whose sole purpose in life is to organise the ‘stuff’;
· a team coach and regular training sessions (after school?) to prepare the riders over the next 8 months;
· team sponsors and fund raising activities;
· team mechanics;
· a team uniform;
· group air travel and accommodation;
· transport the bikes and gear in a container by road; and
· hire a huge marquee for the Club’s pits.If this sounds great, youwould like to be part of an ACT representative team to attend the Aussie Titles, please advise Andrew Campbell on 0404-855015.

It will cater for a growing number of (keen and talented) local Senior women riders.This will add about 40 minutes to the race day schedule, but make the ACT MCC the hub of Senior Women’s MX racing within the Capital Region. Saddle up now!

Check out the hot pics of the Riders to America doing their stuff at Fairbairn Park at the recent Bob Greenwood Memorial event.

New class for 2008: 'Old School'! We want to get all those blokes with old style (but not necessarily old) trail bikes, enduro bikes and motocrossers out trying their hand at racing at Fairbairn. We've changed the class from Pre-85s to any bike that ain't got upside down forks or rear disc brakes. So that's lots of 80s MXers and enduros, most if not all 80s trail bikes, and lots of 90s XRs and TTs etc. Voila - Old School. Come join in the fun!
